Songs about New Zealand
16 August 2008

Hi guys
As some of you would know, recently on the Opshop tour,
myself and the Opshop guys challenged ourselves to write songs all
around the country for and about the different towns we played in.

Last week we went into the studio for 5 days to record all of these songs.
I think there was 18 in total, 18 songs for New Zealand .... watch this space.

Here is a clip of me and Jason singing the song I wrote for
Wellington, in Wellington.

I have sore arms!!ard to the time when all of my gear is looked after by a bunch of fine looking gentlemen in suits called roadies, who in fact don't show as much butt crack as legend would have you believe, and who have great taste in British comedy (my new favourite http://youtube.com/watch?v=bnOiDvBOIiU&feature=related) ..... There is something really cool about carrying around your own guitars and briefcase. It hurts like Ouch walking against the howling wind up Albert street in Palmy for an hour trying to find the accommodation ... But I think I've got a few more songs to write before I put them down.

The Opshop Big Energy in a Can tour is well under way and going great, the band and crew are all fun people to live with.

Jason (Kerrison) has started a bit of a trend, of writing a new song each day for and about the town we are in. He's a bit of a freak like that, a magician with melodies, they are all great songs. I think I'll step up to the pla
Hope you can make one of the shows, remember to bring your can of food for the salvation army:)

Birthday Poem
10 June 2008

Twenty five birthdays
Most I remember
Twenty five years
January to December
Sometimes I feel that
I'm getting old fast
But I know either way
I've got pretty green grass
Thinking ahead to
Twenty five more
I will not remember
The shoes that I wore
So I'll fight to enjoy
Each breath that I take
Thank God I'm alive
And eat my whole cake

Midsummer Tour - Signing out

Well it seems summer has left us once again, which strangely, I like.
I kind of figure when summers had its run I'm usually ready for the
cold again, Genius! these seasons.... almost like it was planned;)

Well the Midsummer tour went great, I've taken a while to recover, but
I'm finally back in sync with myself, and just in time for another
round of craziness (watch this space).

It was awesome to meet so many new people out on the road.
Brian and I had a lot of fun (probably too much fun in Kaikoura, too
much wine in Tauranga, too much sleep deprivation and Fanta in Palmy,
too much wine once again in Wellington and had probably spent a bit
too much time together by Christchurch)

If I didn't get any contact details off you out on the road be sure to
join my mailing list at lukethompsonmusic.com so I can keep you in the
loop about upcoming tours etc.
Until next time...
You stay classy

Look at me...

Lee Sklar

Look at me....
I look a bit dumb-founded.
This is easily explained. You see I'm sitting next to Lee Sklar, one of the greatest bass players to have ever set his fingers to those
four strings. I met him last night at the Toto gig at Civic theatre in Auckland. He was listening to my set and when I walked off he said 'Nice Man, I like your stuff', I was like Dude!! SHUT UP! you play for James Taylor!!!.... Lets Be Friends. (not to mention Phil Collins, Ray Charles, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Doors, Donovan, Neil Diamond, Diana Ross and of course Toto...to name a few of the hundreds)

What a night, Toto were absolutely mind blowing and real nice guys. If you were at the show then you know what I mean, and Thanks for being such a fun audience;) I mean how often do you see someone lose a microphone!

Lee was really cool, we talked about politics and music, and how no one protests anymore, but there's more than ever to protest about... He graciously accepted my Album (and even took a copy for JT;)

So yes.... that's why I look like a teenage girl in this photo

Hi Guys

Just back in the studio today after a few weeks off. Lots of sleep & all that, a bit of skipping, one surf, a couple of new songs and a whole new attitude....???;)

Well, the first single off the album 'Bleed' has just been released. Listen and Look out for it, hope you Like. You can vote for 'Bleed' on C4 by txting S155 to 4440, between 4pm - 6.30pm.

Now back to work, we have just started mixing the album and the rough mixes are sounding super, I suggested saving some money and not mixing at all, buy some new shoes instead, a couple of expensive restaurants and new jackets all round, but no my dream was crushed and on we go. Anyway, Thanks for the support:)

Just a quick note to let you know I'll be out on the road in Oct-Nov with 'Atlas' and 'Gasoline Cowboy', touring the North island. Should be a great show, I will be opening up the evenings, just me and my guitar (and perhaps my harmonica will come out for a whistle....)

Hope you can make it along to one of the shows. Check the gigs page for details or www.lukethompsonmusic.com
